Citizen’s Academy
Four Week Citizen’s Academy
While attending the Safeguard Palm Beach Police and Fire Citizen’s Academy, participants will learn about law enforcement, public safety, and how the Palm Beach Police and Fire Departments work collaboratively with its citizens to keep our community peaceful and safe.
Program Experience
Over the course of four weeks, participants meet and get to know some of the men and women who work at the Town of Palm Beach Police and Fire Rescue Departments, and learn about public safety straight from the source.
Sessions with the Police Department include: Hands-on opportunities and participation in interactive crime scene investigations, ride-alongs in police cars and on the police boat, a tour of the County jail, Response to Resistance, TASER deployment and firearm safety sessions.
The Fire Rescue Department will lead sessions that highlight education about water supply and pumping, hoseline drills, vehicle extrication, truck operation, safe usage of fire extinguishers, along with safe CPR, AED, water safety and rescue procedures.
At the end of the academy, participants will have a greater understanding of public safety operations and will become a part of the Palm Beach Police and Fire Rescue Departments’ “family”
The program will conclude with a Graduation Ceremony on the last day of the program, where graduates and their families will enjoy a ceremony and celebratory dinner.

I’ve been actively telling every person I know to sign up for the Academy, because it was such a great experience… So I highly encourage everybody to find the time if they can. I can’t stop talking about it.

I [had an] amazing experience at the Fire Station Citizen’s Academy. Everyone was beyond kind and ever so informative. I have always had a healthy respect and admiration for Firefighters but now have a much greater understanding of the incredible and vast degree of work you all do. I can’t wait for the next classes; you and your teams are beyond awesome! This experience of the Citizen’s Academy is truly life changing.
Carl (David)
[It] was interesting and entertaining and the group was quite surprised and impressed with the myriad of functions the fire department responds to and is responsible for. Well Done. We all look forward to our next session and tearing those cars up.
Jack McDonald Former Mayor of Palm Beach
I enjoyed every minute of our six-week course. I owe much gratitude to the foundation, Palm Beach Police Department and Palm Beach Fire Department. A special thanks to our police officers and firefighters. Their knowledge, work ethic, bravery and dedication is beyond measure… [the] citizens of Palm Beach should be aware how lucky we are to have the finest police and fire departments in the country. They are out there protecting us day and night.
